What the parts mean
The 4 letters are the bank code (the first four letters of the bank's BIC), followed by the 6-digit sort code and the 8-digit account number.

Paying an IBAN in United Kingdom
For SEPA payments involving countries outside the EEA, banks normally require the BIC as well as the IBAN.
Writing the IBAN in groups of four (GB35 ABCD …) is the usual print format; online banking and payment files use it without spaces.
