What the parts mean
The 4 letters are the bank code (from the bank's BIC, e.g. INGB, RABO, ABNA), followed by the 10-digit account number.

Paying an IBAN in Netherlands
Within the EEA, SEPA payments need only the IBAN; the BIC is optional. Accounts are usually in euro.
Writing the IBAN in groups of four (NL29 ABCD …) is the usual print format; online banking and payment files use it without spaces.
