What the parts mean
The first 8 digits are the Bankleitzahl (BLZ); the last 10 are the account number (Kontonummer), padded with leading zeros.

Paying an IBAN in Germany
Within the EEA, SEPA payments need only the IBAN; the BIC is optional. Accounts are usually in euro.
Writing the IBAN in groups of four (DE43 1234 …) is the usual print format; online banking and payment files use it without spaces.
